scalamandre wallpaper

I certainly wasn’t expecting a new affinity for zebras to become part of my design palette lately but it has and they are here – and I love it! Aside from my new blog main stage featuring a photo I snapped in GoodWood of some very cool and stylin zebra accents, I have absolutely fallen in love with Scalamandre Zebra wallpaper. I am sure you’ve seen this pretty paper before – in Kate Spade stores and films like The Royal Tennenbaums. It’s completely whimsical with an awesome color contrast in tons of different colors (I am loving the gold and brown).

So where does all my love of wallpaper and Scalamandre lead me? Well I hope to a project this year. We are house hunting right now and I’ve been dreaming of wallpapering an entire bathroom – the perfect small space tip for making a super small space appear bigger and look great. Below is a great bathroom space (although not Scalamandre but still a fantastic hexagonal design) that is wallpapered from head to toe. I think Zebras would look great in a tiny space too. dream escapes and tiny spaces

Posted on: December 30th, 2011 by rebecca

Although I am enjoying living on the east coast now, I do miss my west coast style, especially the ocean views.  Nothing a plane ride to take care of that but in the meantime, I found a few awesome sites and blogs that curb my ocean wanderlust. One of my new faves is Unique Home Stays. Aside from the amazing destination and vacation ideas in and throughout the UK, I love the homes and decor that the team curates for guests. Above is one of my faves, a tiny cottage full of style on the beach  – I definitely can see myself lounging on the deck. I am thinking a European adventure could be in my future.

design inspiration
patterns in small spaces

Posted on: October 17th, 2011 by rebecca

Oh la la do I love patterns! I am all over them lately and wanted to share some with you that I have in my own small space. All spaces (big or small) can benefit from patterns. They add color, style and often an anchor to a room that may need to feel more dimensional. This definitely helps in small spaces. And don’t feel overwhelmed with patter – embrace it. You can add it in doses or go big – either way it will certainly add a fantastic feeling and design impact. Here are my rooms //

1. Yellow and cream color combo in a country-greek key pattern

2. My new office rug

3. Black, white and gray large abstract leaf pattern

4. My small space DIY headboard in our bedroom

5. Earthy zig zag pattern

6. Our new Missoni for Target 7 x 10 rug in our dining space

7. Black and white round and straight lined pattern

8. Reupholstered chairs in our family room

9. Black and ivory mod pattern

10. My new office chair

11. Two-toned gray stripes

12. My Flor tiles in our family room

How do you integrate pattern in your {small} space?

I absolutely love the design work of Mina Javid. My favorite – the wall graphics. Mina’s work extends from modern lighting options to patterned headboards all interpreted through decals you can add to surfaces in your small space. Simple and impactful – my favorite kind of style. Plus small space dwellers can get the look without taking up the space (hi, cool headboard) Click here to enjoy her full portfolio, including interior styling and furniture design. currently loving gold enamel votives

Posted on: August 31st, 2011 by rebecca

A few weeks ago, I posted about a black and gold combo that I see coming on strong in the next few months. {Be on the lookout for the November InStyle Magazine where I talk more about this trend} I spotted this style over the summer when I was in Stockholm, Italy and London. While there, I picked up  a bunch of design goodies, including this fave item – a votive. Super small in size, this little guy is such a nice design element in my new small space, I love it! There’s something chic and cool about this votive – matte exterior and and shiny enamel interior – the tiny tealight creates such a look in such a small package. I love small details in small spaces // they truly add style.

currently loving…the soon-to-be-launching missoni for target collection

Posted on: August 7th, 2011 by rebecca

If you are a design lover and a Missoni lover like me then I am sure you are also anticipating the very cool and fab Missoni for Target collection launch in a few weeks. I was thrilled to spot a few images online and in magazines that preview a few items from the very full collection. There are about 400 pieces, including a bike and patio set. (Yea, that patio set is mine – dying for a sneak peek :) I love the Missoni style and color – remember my small space DIY from a few months ago when I turned a Missoni hand towel into art? I also have been coveting their cashmere throw, even spotting it in Florence this summer and wishing I could take it home with me.

currently loving…stone side tables

Posted on: May 18th, 2011 by rebecca

I’ve been seeing stone side tables all over the places and really think they make a great accent statement in a small space. Maybe it’s the texture, style and design but these pretty pieces make me smile.

currently loving…tinted porcelain bowls

Posted on: March 30th, 2011 by rebecca

Don’t you love this dishware? I absolutely do! This line of bowls, plates and trays is from a neat little company out of Australia that tints the porcelain prior to baking. A simple glaze is applied to add the shine. I think adding small details with color and texture to small space creates a subtle but impactful design style. Love that!

currently loving…bright colors in small doses

Posted on: March 17th, 2011 by rebecca

Seeing small pops of color in my small space really makes me smile. How simple yet impactful is placing a few colored pencils in a simple glass vase? Absolutely love the quiet style that is created here. How do you use bright color in your home?
